Geku: General Knowledge Quiz Game (Mobile & Web)

The Android app I built with Flutter and the Vue 3 web version of Geku, a picture-answer trivia game, plus challenge, shop and notification features I added to its API.

Geku: General Knowledge Quiz Game (Mobile & Web)

Geku is a general-knowledge quiz game with questions organised by category and answered with pictures. I built the game's Android app with Flutter and its web version with Vue 3, and added features to the game's PHP API and admin panel. The app is live on Google Play and the web version at geku.tr.

Key features

  • Guest sign-in (device ID plus a random nickname) and Sign in with Google
  • Category-based play, jokers (double answer, remove a wrong answer), points and player titles
  • Challenges (duels): create a room, join with a 6-digit code or an invite link; on mobile the invite link opens the app directly
  • Friends, push notifications and real-time chat on Firebase Firestore
  • Gold economy: shop, profile frames, avatars and earning jokers by watching rewarded ads
  • Weekly and all-time leaderboards
  • On mobile, questions are cached on the device: the game is playable offline and only new or updated questions are downloaded
  • An app icon that reacts to how you play: an “angry” icon after days away, an “awesome” one after a busy day

Technologies

Mobile: Flutter, Dart, Riverpod, Dio, Hive, Firebase (Auth, Firestore, Cloud Messaging), Google Sign-In, AdMob. Web: Vue 3, Vite, Pinia, Vue Router, Tailwind CSS, Axios. Backend: PHP 8.2, MySQL, Eloquent ORM, Docker.

My contribution

I built the Android app and the Vue web client. In the shared backend repository I worked on challenge invite links, push notifications via Firebase Cloud Messaging, the shop and gold system, avatars and profile frames, friendship actions, a support/feedback form, category-exclusive questions and image-based question filtering in the admin panel. The backend's core infrastructure and the API v2 security migration were done by another developer.
